LumaStream in St. Pete breaks into big data technology with new patent

A customer working to tackle their Christmas list heads to the mall and soon begins to wander the department store displays. They go up to a display, wander elsewhere, return to the display, touch the product and ultimately leave without purchasing it.

All those actions will soon be able to be tracked by St. Petersburg-based company LumaStream, an innovative LED lighting company. The company recently was approved for a patent which will integrate the company’s low-voltage lighting system with the internet of things infrastructure: essentially, putting sensors in lights to gather information from various environments and give that information to the interested party.

“It expands our business model into the world of big data and the value of that,” said Eric Higgs, founder and chairman of LumaStream. “We believe it’s extremely valuable — it’s very broad in the industry. This opens a whole new application of technology.” Read full article
